SUMMARY:Matthew Good and His Band
DESCRIPTION:NOW WITH OPENING ACT TEXAS KING! \n\n\n\nMatthew Good is a multi-platinum selling Canadian recording artist\, best known for his signature vocal style\, guitar-driven melodies\, and cinematic lyrics. \n\n\n\nHe began his career as the frontman for the Matthew Good Band\, one of the most successful Canadian alternative rock bands during the 1990s and early 2000s. \n\n\n\nRock radio staples such as “Hello Timebomb\,” “Everything Is Automatic\,” “Indestructible\,” “Apparitions\,” and “Load Me Up” made the group a household name\, selling out shows throughout Canada over seven years and four full-length album releases. Along the way\, the group picked up Juno Awards for Best Group (2000) and Best Rock Album for Beautiful Midnight that same year. \n\n\n\nAfter disbanding in 2002\, Good started writing and recording his first solo record\, 2003’s Avalanche\, which marked a creative departure from his earlier work but had no trouble finding an audience. Hailed as a masterful work of emotional and intellectual depth\, the album struck a chord with critics and audiences alike and set Good’s solo career on a rapid\, upward trajectory. \n\n\n\nAvalanche clocked in at just under 70 minutes long\, making it clear he had plenty to say\, and audiences were ready to listen. With long\, complex melodies to get lost in and in-your-face protest rock\, his solo work would prove to be the cure to the short and vapid pop songs of the early 2000s\, almost prophesying the darker times to come. \n\n\n\nWith his award-winning 2009 record Vancouver\, Good countered the corporate patriotism of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics by shining a light on those in the margins of the major Canadian city\, seemingly swept under the rug to make way for parades and celebrations. Indeed\, Good’s music has often given a voice to the under-represented. \n\n\n\nTo date\, Good’s body of work includes thirteen full-length studio albums\, four EPs\, two compilation LPs\, and one live album. He has been nominated for 21 Juno Awards throughout his career\, with solo wins for Rock Album of the Year for Vancouver and Video of the Year for 2003’s “Weapon”. He has also garnered eight Top 10 radio singles in Canada as a solo artist\, including “Weapon\,” “In A World Called Catastrophe\,” “Alert Status Red\,” “Born Losers” and “Last Parade.” New music from Matthew Good is slated for release in mid-2024. \n\n\n\nHe has never been one to shy away from pushing musical boundaries. Through his music\, Good’s defiant spirit anchors a vulnerable\, unapologetic outlook on life while offering glimpses of hope and reminding us there is beauty in the world. Never one to bite his tongue\, his hyper-awareness of the world around him\, including political\, socio-economic\, and mental health issues\, has earned him accolades for his thoughtful and deliberate approach. \n\n\n\nAs the world\, politically and culturally\, continues to spiral into seemingly darker and darker places\, Good has been there in lockstep\, to hold up a mirror to society’s adoration of violence\, the hypocrisy of those in power\, and the injustices everywhere that permeate his music. \n\n\n\nTickets are: \n\n\n\nOrchestra Pit (Rows AA – FF): $79.95 + HST \n\n\n\nOrchestra (Rows A – J): $74.95 + HST \n\n\n\nMezzanine: $69.95 + HST \n\n\n\nBalcony: $64.95 + HST \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Texas King: \n\n\n\nTexas King is an alternative rock band known for their energetic performances and blend of rock\, indie\, and pop influences. \n\n\n\nIn 2022\, they released the EP Changes\, featuring a mix of introspective lyrics and strong instrumentals. This EP led to their signing with Known Accomplice and set the stage for their 2023 follow-up EP\, Capsize. This EP marked a significant step in their growth\, with tracks like the #4 Active Rock radio hit “Whatever You Break.” \n\n\n\nTheir new single\, “Hook Me Up\,” is from their upcoming album and explores the idea of reaching a crossroads in life. The band describes it as a conversation with oneself\, recognizing the need for help and the importance of finding a source of energy to get through tough times. \n\n\n\nInfluenced by Kings of Leon and The Black Keys\, Texas King has been touring and recording since 2014. They’ve played major stages like Boots & Hearts\, Hillside\, Tall Pines\, and Festival d’été de Québec\, while touring across North America with bands like Big Wreck\, Last Dinosaurs\, and The Glorious Sons. \n\n\n\nTexas King continues to move forward in the world of alternative rock with new music and performances on the horizon\, building on their success and looking ahead to what’s next. \n\n\n\nBUY TICKETS ONLINE HERE \n\n\n\nTickets can also be purchased during our business hours by calling our Box Office at 705-746-4466 extension 405 or visiting us at 2 Bay Street\, Parry Sound.

SUMMARY:Classic Albums Live Performs: Supertramp - Crime of the Century
DESCRIPTION:Do you remember listening to an entire album? The thrill of dropping the needle on the greatest music ever recorded? Classic Albums Live does. \n\n\n\nClassic Albums Live takes the greatest Classic Rock albums and recreates them live on stage – note for note / cut for cut. \n\n\n\nCrime of the Century is a Toronto album. Back in the day\, it was everywhere. Every passing car and every paneled basement. We gawked at the album cover\, it looked like the album sounded. First attempts at air piano were made while this album played. We got it. \n\n\n\nTickets are $49.95 + HST. \n\n\n\nTickets go on sale to Stockey Members on Wednesday July 24th at 11am and on sale to the public on Wednesday July 31st at 11am. \n\n\n\nTo become a Stockey Member\, you can visit us on our Membership page for more information and to purchase online\, give us a call at 705-746-4466 extension 405\, or visit us at 2 Bay Street\, Parry Sound. \n\n\n\nBUY TICKETS ONLINE HERE \n\n\n\nTickets can also be purchased during our business hours by calling our Box Office at 705-746-4466 extension 405 or visiting us at 2 Bay Street\, Parry Sound.

SUMMARY:Matthew Byrne
DESCRIPTION:NOW WITH OPENING ACT JAMES GRAY! \n\n\n\nMatthew recently recorded his 4th studio album in Sheffield\, UK\, and is set to release it in Fall 2024. Folk legend Martin Simpson produced this latest project\, which features instrumentation from some of the finest musicians on the English folk scene\, including Nancy Kerr\, Andy Cutting\, Liz Hanks\, James Fagan\, Louis Campbell\, and Ben Nicholls. Matthew Byrne’s previous two recordings each won Traditional Album of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards\, and his highly anticipated 4th recording will grab further attention from traditional audiences on both sides of the Atlantic. \n\n\n\nStorytelling through song is a fundamental duty of traditional music\, and Matthew Byrne does this brilliantly. His musical upbringing has shaped his repertoire\, and Byrne supports this tradition with powerful vocals\, polished guitar work\, and a presence that fills the room. \n\n\n\nWith parents who were both singers and song collectors and a strong family focus on sharing songs\, Byrne has inherited a unique repertoire and a fascination with unearthing and reimagining traditional songs. \n\n\n\n“I’m not a folklorist or ethnomusicologist\, at least not officially. And I’m not a purist. I’ve poured over the nuances of the pub standards as much as the obscure murder balladry. What attracts me to a traditional song is the right combination of melody and language\, which have always fascinated me.” \n\n\n\nBut Byrne is also a student of history whose love of traditional music goes well beyond the words and music. For him\, songs are ways of understanding people before him…their lives\, work\, language\, and worldview. \n\n\n\n“I see songs as sources of the past—windows into my own family history. Traditional music has always been the most important tool for me to understand where I come from and who I am. My live performance is meant to take audiences on a journey through the lineage of my repertoire and share what these songs have revealed to me.” \n\n\n\nTickets are $29.95 + HST each. \n\n\n\nABOUT JAMES GRAY \n\n\n\n\nJames Gray is a contemporary version of an old-school traveling folk singer. In the past decade\, Gray has toured throughout Canada\, Europe and Australia\, seeing the world and sharing his beloved songs along the way. A unique finger style guitarist\, with a vocal that is hauntingly beautiful\, Gray\, often accompanied by a rather droll\, humorous stage patter\, immerses himself in each and every song with a soulfulness and attack that is infectious and disarming. \n\n\n\nJames has released three albums\, the most recent in 2023 entitled “New Friends That Talk Like Old Friends.” In 2019 James won himself a spot at The Mariposa Folk Festival through their showcase auditions. James has since been invited to perform at 5 Mariposa folk events\, The Northern Lights Festival Boreal\, 2 Troubadour Festivals and the Muskoka Music Festival in James’ home of northern/central Ontario. \n\n\n\nGray has recently returned home from touring throughout Switzerland\, Germany and Austria. This 2024 festival season James was invited to perform at both the Northern Lights Festival Boreal and the Mariposa Folk Festival where he had the honor of warming up the main stage for Bruce Cockburn.  \n\n\n\n\nBUY TICKETS ONLINE HERE \n\n\n\nTickets can also be purchased during our business hours by calling our Box Office at 705-746-4466 extension 405 or visiting us at 2 Bay Street\, Parry Sound.

SUMMARY:Danny Michel
DESCRIPTION:The only good thing about not shopping in record stores anymore is you won’t have to figure out what genre to look for Danny under. If that were the case\, you could try looking under\, rock\, pop\, folk\, world or even classical. \n\n\n\nHis own self-described musical A.D.D. has kept his music fresh for decades. Maybe it has something to do with being born next to a candy factory\, or his ambidextrous brain\, but his thoughtful lyrics & charming performances have earned a devoted fan base\, multiple nominations for Junos\, The Polaris Prize\, CBC’s “Heart Of Gold”\, and most recently winning the CFMA’s “Producer of the year” and “Oliver Schroder Pushing the Boundaries” Awards. \n\n\n\nBut Danny considers his career highlights to be the unique real life moments like performing for Jane Goodall’s 85th birthday party\, touring with Stuart Mclean and working with charities close to his heart. \n\n\n\nIn 2015\, his adventurous spirit took him to the country of Belize where he tracked down one of his favourite Belizean bands; The Garifuna Collective (a unique Afro-Amerindian cultural group) and convinced them to create an album together. That album (“Black Birds Are Dancing Over Me”) was called “One of the finest musical works of our time” by Billboard’s Larry Leblanc\, landed Danny’s 3rd Juno nomination (World Music Album Of The Year)\, and a sold out summer tour of North America with The Garifuna Collective. \n\n\n\nWhile in Belize\, Danny also founded the DM Ocean Academy Fund that helps raise scholarships for a small non-profit community high school. To date\, Danny & his fans have raised over $125\,000.00 for the school. \n\n\n\nIn 2016\, Danny returned to Canada to record “Matadora\,” his most deeply humanist album to date. This ten-song collection explores the environmentalist\, pacifist\, romanticist\, archivist\, and space enthusiast in Danny. \n\n\n\nThen it was off to the Canadian high Arctic where Danny recorded “Khlebnikov” (possibly the most northern album ever recorded/above 80°) aboard the legendary Soviet-era Russian ice-breaker\, Kapitan Khlebnikov during an 18-day arctic expedition curated by Astronaut Col. Chris Hadfield. Once home\, Danny’s recordings were arranged for brass & strings by film composer Rob Carli. The result is a suite of atmospheric and haunting songs about the Arctic\, our planet\, and our place in it. \n\n\n\nWhen he’s not performing he’s fighting for musicians’ rights\, the environment\, making short films\, producing\, running his studio or filming his comedy/sci-fi/music show “Dan’s Space Van”. \n\n\n\nTickets are $44.95 + HST each. \n\n\n\nTickets go on sale to Stockey Members on Friday May 24th at 3pm and on sale to the public on Friday May 31st at 11am.
