SUMMARY:Postponing: Whiskey Jack: Stompin’ Tom’s Canada Meets Sean Cullen’s Comedy
DESCRIPTION:This event is being postponed\, staff are in the process of contacting all ticket holders as of March 24\, 2021.\n\n“Stompin’ Tom’s Canada Meets Sean Cullen’s Comedy” is a playful\, funny\, very musical and all Canadian show starring one of Stompin’ Tom’s favourite touring bands\, Whiskey Jack.  Sean and the band have presented their onstage antics numerous times over the years and will be on tour again in 2020.\n\nDuncan Fremlin and his show “Whiskey Jack Presents Stories & Songs of Stompin’ Tom” first invited comedian\, author\, actor and singer Sean Cullen to join them at their very first concert in 2014.  As Sean stepped onto the stage that night\, he told the audience that Tom had written songs about potatoes\, tomatoes and tobacco but sadly\, not one about what many consider to be Canada’s national food\, poutine.  Within minutes and with the band providing the soundtrack\, I Love Poutine was created\, on stage\, in front of hundreds of hungry fans.  It brought the house down!\n\nWhiskey Jack’s 25 years on stage and in the studio with Stompin’ Tom form the heart and soul of this show\, now in its 7th year.   Each night\, Duncan and his all star musicians\, including 5 time Canadian National Fiddle Champion\, Randy Morrison and 2 time Juno nominee\, Douglas John Cameron\, captivate the fans by singing all the hits (The Hockey Song\, Bud the Spud and more) and sharing stories of the private\, backstage world of Stompin’ Tom.  And yes\, these are the outrageous tales that made him the legendary iconic hero to the entire country.\n\nJoining this cast of Canadian characters is a long time friend and collaborator with this show\, Cindy Church.

SUMMARY:Steven Page
DESCRIPTION:Recorded in Canada and upstate New York with longtime live bands Odds and The Original Six\, and frequent collaborator Craig Northey\, Discipline is Page’s fifth solo album and the spiritual follow-up to 2016’s Heal Thyself\, Pt. I: Instinct. Musically the album funnels Page’s love of 70s/80s radio-ready soul and R&B through the heady pop prism of David Byrne and Kevin Rowland with some 80s weirdness thrown in. Page was recently inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame with his former band\, the Barenaked Ladies. He has always been a prolific writer of words and hooks\, but on Discipline they’re delivered with such a clear-eyed confidence and purposeful vision that somehow it feels like an evolution\, a breakthrough and a homecoming all at once. Page deploys existential heft\, dystopian visions\, savage humor and a killer horn section like a many-headed hydra with sights trained squarely on himself – and by extension the question of what it means to be an artist at all in a time like this. \n“In our rock culture the three major times of political music-making were the late 60s\, the punk movement in the 70s and then the late 80s\, and there’s a lot to learn from each\,” says Page\, who as a Canadian citizen that has lived in the U.S. for more than five years\, is currently unable to vote in either country. “On this album a lot of these songs are asking questions like\, ‘What are you giving away\, and to what purpose? To make yourself feel better or look better? Or do you actually think you can inspire change?’ I’ve watched lots of my peers going off on social media\, but it’s so brief\, like picking fights in the air. I’d rather talk about it in music.” \nAnd talk he does – better than most of us. Throughout Discipline Page acts as a sort of shape-shifting Zelig\, a melodious Dr. Who – freewheeling through time and space to pop in\, poke fun\, relive and reimagine key moments in music history\, while also wading in some of the weightier socio-political waters of the last century\, all as a way to ask new questions\, prefigure new futures and try to make sense of right now.  \nTaking cues from the great soul anthems of the 70s\, album-closer “Looking for the Light” finds Page ending things on a hopeful note – one stripped of the winking irony and irreverence that have become his signature. And whether it’s a spiritual destination\, or a promise of better times to come\, it’s clear that Page is headed somewhere he’s never been before – and we’re lucky to go along for the ride. \nTickets are $47.95 + HST each. \nFor full details of the COVID-19 health protocols that will be in place at the Stockey Centre for this event\, please visit our Safety Guidelines page. \nEffective September 22nd\, 2021\, the Stockey Centre is required to have a Vaccine Certificate Protocol in place for all events occurring at the Stockey Centre\, as per the Province of Ontario’s Proof of Vaccination Mandate. SUMMARY:iskwē
DESCRIPTION:FROM THE STARS TOUR \n\n\n\natamiskâtowin. wâseskwan iskwew isiyihkâsow. kamâmak okihciwāw. \n\n\n\nHello. My name is iskwē. I come from the cree\, I come from the Métis\, and I come from Treaty One territory. But before all of this\, I come from the stars (acākosīk). \n\n\n\nIn cree culture we are taught that we are the descendants of the star people\, the ones who shared with us our knowledge and understanding\, gave us fire\, stories and teachings of maps of the sky. We are taught that we return to the sky when we are finished walking here on earth\, and that when you look up to see a falling star\, you’re watching the coming and going of the star people\, our ancestors. \n\n\n\nThrough my next tour\, Come from the Stars\, I will invite people to share with me the stories of my ancestors. \n\n\n\niskwē | ᐃᐢᑫᐧᐤ is\, among many other things\, a Juno-award winning artist – a creator and communicator of music and of movement\, of pictures\, poetry and prose. And through it all\, she’s a teller of stories that have impacted our past and will inform our future. Her music is a sonic exploration that not only blurs lines between sources and styles\, but also between the actual and the ideal\, the real and imagined. Her message is most impactful when delivered from the stage\, where it’s not uncommon for people to leave in entranced contemplation or even in tears. Her music merges with dance\, multimedia\, and more in a completely engulfing and cathartic experience – meant to bring people together and celebrate that which unites over that which divides us. \n\n\n\niskwē is Cree Métis from Treaty One Territory. She was born and raised in Winnipeg\, Manitoba\, Canada. She is an urban Indigenous two-spirited woman from the Red River Valley\, the birthplace of the Métis Nation. \n\n\n\nPresented by Hey Bear Productions/FACTOR/Ontario Creates. \n\n\n\nTickets are $32.50 + HST\, tickets go on sale to the public on Friday November 12\, 2021\, at 10am. \n\n\n\nFor full details of the COVID-19 health protocols that will be in place at the Stockey Centre for this event\, please visit our Safety Guidelines page. \n\n\n\nEffective September 22nd\, 2021\, the Stockey Centre is required to have a Vaccine Certificate Protocol in place for all events occurring at the Stockey Centre\, as per the Province of Ontario’s Proof of Vaccination Mandate. SUMMARY:SOLD OUT: The Stampeders: Celebrating 50 Years
DESCRIPTION:You are able to join a waitlist for tickets to this show by contacting our Box Office at 705-746-4466 extension 205 or by visiting us at 2 Bay Street in Parry Sound. \n\n\n\n\n‘They’re on their way\, to the city lights’ … and\, THE predominant Canadian Rock ‘n’ Roll band of the 1970s – The Stampeders – are bringing along all their classic hits: Wild Eyes\, Carry Me\, Oh My Lady\, Devil You\, Monday Morning Choo Choo\, Minstrel Gypsy\, Hit the Road Jack and\, of course\, the quintessential Canadian – and Hall of Fame – song\, Sweet City Woman! A veritable soundtrack to a whole generation that will ‘carry you home’ … maybe not to Birmingham … but back to a time of tie-dyed t-shirts and elevator shoes\, 15¢ coffee and homemade apple pie\, dating and dreaming … By the time The Stampeders get to the first chorus of the first song\, everyone will be singing along. \nNo seventies group represented Canada’s musical identity to the world like The Stampeders. A quick look at Canada’s music scene from 1971 until 1976 confirms The Stampeders were truly the country’s international musical ambassadors\, touring more extensively in Canada and overseas than any other Canadian group during that time.  In 1977 the trio: Rich Dodson (lead guitar)\, Kim Berly (drums) and Ronnie King (bass) parted company but reunited\, fittingly at the Calgary Stampede\, 15 years later in 1992.  \nSince then they’ve been recognized by SOCAN for their Lifetime Achievement\, been inducted into the SOCAN Songwriters Hall of Fame on five occasions and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame for their 1971 seminal hit Sweet City Woman. The enduring musical legacy of The Stampeders\, celebrating 50 years… ‘better catch a noon train\, better get there for a rock ‘n’ rolling good time!’ \nTickets are $66.50 each. \nFor full details of the COVID-19 health protocols that will be in place at The Stockey Centre for this event\, please visit our Safety Guidelines page. SUMMARY:Sarah Harmer: Are You Gone Tour
DESCRIPTION:Are You Gone? – the first new album in a decade from Sarah Harmer–is a deeply personal and momentous collection of songs motivated by the beauty of life\, the urgency of climate crisis\, and the question of loss. \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe first song “New Low” is more than a return to music for the internationally celebrated singer-songwriter and activist: it is a definition of form\, a call-for-uprising in the face of global disaster\, at the most critical moment for Harmer to raise her voice–one of the most distinctive in Canadian music. The vitality of “New Low\,” its heedless pace\, sharp guitars and exclamatory horns\, bely the passage of time since Harmer’s last record\, Oh Little Fire (2010). Nearly twenty years from the release of her debut\, You Were Here (2000)\, Are You Gone brings a close to Harmer’s period of musical quietude with arousing artistic statement\, rich in detail and emotion\, from the heart and for the spirit. The multi-award-winning platinum-selling musician’s long-anticipated sixth album was released on February 2020 on Arts & Crafts. \n\n\n\nTickets are $49.50 each \n\n\n\nFor full details of the COVID-19 health protocols that will be in place at The Stockey Centre for this event\, please visit our Safety Guidelines page. SUMMARY:Boreal
DESCRIPTION:Boreal is the magical musical collaboration of Tannis Slimmon\, Katherine Wheatley and Angie Nussey. These three hard working singer-songwriters\, each with their own longstanding\, award winning careers\, simply love playing music together. The brighter / warmer months are reserved for “Boreal Goes Botanical”\, a show that combines sun-loving\, moon-watching\, finger-snapping\, heart-touching and deeply uplifting songs. \n\n\n\nKATHERINE WHEATLEY grew up\, number 4 of 6 kids\, in Parry Sound\, Ontario. Acoustic roots with catchy melodies\, arresting vocals\, great guitar playing\, lyrics that get you and that you get – these are all things that have been written over and over again about her music. She sings truth\, bravely\, and in detail. Katherine has won awards for composition\, arranging and songwriting. In addition to touring across Canada\, the U.S. and Europe as a solo singer/songwriter\, Katherine is a member of the Toronto band “Betty and The Bobs” and plays regularly in the hilarious and moving duo “Wendell and Wheat”. She has written and recorded over 200 songs with kids through her Youthsongs program and is in high demand for her innovative songwriting and music workshops. Katherine works as a singer and zodiac driver on board The MS Expedition as it plies the seas of Antarctica and the Norwegian Arctic. \n\n\n\nTANNIS SLIMMON grew up in a large musical family on a farm in Manitoba and moved to Guelph\, Ontario in 1980 where she soon became known on the Canadian music scene as a member of the critically acclaimed Bird Sisters. Her exceptional voice “full of gentle grace and unobtrusive dignity” (Penguin Eggs) can be heard on over 100 albums including those by Willie P. Bennett\, Valdy\, David Francey and Rheostatics. Tannis is the 2020 recipient of the prestigious Estelle Klein Award\, Ontario’s highest folk honour.  In 2008 she was honoured with the Contemporary Vocalist of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards for “Lucky Blue”. \n\n\n\nANGIE NUSSEY is an award-winning Canadian recording artist and producer from Orillia\, Ontario. Since 1999\, she has released six full-length albums and won over 15 industry awards for songwriting\, vocals\, and performance. She is probably best known for her emotional\, philosophical and at times autobiographical ballads\, but she doesn’t miss an opportunity to poke fun at everyday situations and the human condition\, not to mention herself. In 2021\, Angie began releasing her solo project\, “I Have No Idea What I’m Doing”\, which is a collection of autobiographical songs and stories released on a monthly basis. Angie is downright funny and a moving\, beautiful musician. \n\n\n\nThe trio’s spell binding harmonies\, combined vocal prowess and tour-de-force song-writing make for a powerful musical event. With humour\, storytelling and heart melting honesty\, Boreal takes their audience on a journey of friendship\, laughter and connection.  \n\n\n\nTickets are $29.95 + HST. Tickets go on sale to Stockey Members on Saturday March 19th at 11am and to the general public on Saturday March 26th at 11am. \n\n\n\nTo become a Stockey Member\, you can visit us on our Membership page for more information and to purchase online\, give us a call at 705-746-4466 extension 205\, or visit us at 2 Bay Street\, Parry Sound. \n\n\n\nBUY TICKETS ONLINE HERE

SUMMARY:Ron Sexsmith
DESCRIPTION:At 56\, Canada’s foremost well-heeled troubadour has made a most unlikely discovery: domestic bliss. All it took\, it turns out\, was leaving the city he loved. \n\n\n\nFollowing 30 years as an emblem of Toronto’s west end\, Ron Sexsmith reluctantly uprooted to the serene hamlet of Stratford\, Ontario\, and the melodic\, playful\, theatrically vivacious Hermitage came gushing out. \n\n\n\nHermitage is the first album on which he played nearly all the instruments\, an idea he credits to producer and longtime drummer Don Kerr. “Don said ‘Why don’t you make one of those sort of Paul McCartney-type records?’ and it’s like a light bulb went on over my head\,” he says. “That had never occurred to me.” \n\n\n\nThe result is the songwriter’s most self-assured collection\, still charmingly subtle yet increasingly full of musical vigor\, as on “Chateau Mermaid\,” an ode to his own Stratford Graceland\, or the surprisingly hopeful “Small Minded World\,” (originally penned for the Addams Family film)\, in which Sexsmith croons\, Oh now don’t feel blue ‘cos they don’t get you\, you’ll win this small minded world. \n\n\n\n“I think it’s a very upbeat album\, lyrically\,” he confirms. “It’s reflective of the sort of peacefulness that I’d recently felt. I’m getting more comfortable in my own skin.” \n\n\n\nTickets are: \n\n\n\nOrchestra – $55.00Mezzanine – $49.00Balcony – $49.00\n\n\n\nOpening Act: Paige Warner \n\n\n\nWith an evocative voice that captivates her audience\, Paige Warner creates music that sits between R&B and singer-songwriter with soul-inspired vocal licks layered on catchy hooks and rhythms. Her debut EP\, ‘Revealed’\, launched her independent career. With over 59\,000 combined listens on Spotify alone\, Paige’s recent singles have drawn love from media and listeners alike. Paige Warner’s voice is often what draws people in. However\, she is skilled with more than just her voice\, regularly accompanying herself with piano\, guitar\, or inviting her backup band to the stage. Paige has plans to continue creating relatable songs and holding intimate concerts. SUMMARY:SOLD OUT: Bruce Cockburn
DESCRIPTION:A waitlist is available by contacting our Box Office at 705-746-4466 extension 205. \n\n\n\n\n\nFor 50 years\, this Canadian musical legend has been capturing in song the essence of human experience – while fiercely striving to make it better. \n\n\n\nOne of Canada’s finest artists\, Bruce Cockburn has enjoyed an illustrious career shaped by politics\, spirituality\, and musical diversity. His remarkable journey has seen him embrace folk\, jazz\, rock\, and worldbeat styles while travelling to such far-flung places as Guatemala\, Mali\, Mozambique\, and Nepal\, and writing memorable songs about his ever-expanding world of wonders. “My job\,” he explains\, “is to try and trap the spirit of things in the scratches of pen on paper and the pulling of notes out of metal.” \n\n\n\nThat scratching and pulling has earned Cockburn high praise as an exceptional songwriter and a revered guitarist. His songs of romance\, protest\, and spiritual discovery are among the best to have emerged from Canada over the last 50 years. His guitar playing\, both acoustic and electric\, has placed him in the company of the world’s top instrumentalists. And he remains deeply respected for his activism on issues from native rights and land mines to the environment and Third World debt\, working for organizations such as Oxfam\, Amnesty International\, Doctors Without Borders\, and Friends of the Earth. \n\n\n\nThroughout his career\, Cockburn has deftly captured the joy\, pain\, fear\, and faith of human experience in song. Whether singing about retreating to the country or going up against chaos\, tackling imperialist lies or embracing ecclesiastical truths\, he has always expressed a tough yet hopeful stance: to kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight. “We can’t settle for things as they are\,” he once warned. “If you don’t tackle the problems\, they’re going to get worse.” \n\n\n\nFor his many achievements\, the Ottawa-born artist has been honoured with 13 Juno Awards\, an induction into both the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame\, as well as the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award\, and has been made an Officer of the Order of Canada. But he never rests on his laurels. “I’d rather think about what I’m going to do next\,” says Cockburn. “My models for graceful aging are guys like John Lee Hooker and Mississippi John Hurt\, who never stop working till they drop\, as I fully expect to be doing\, and just getting better as musicians and as human beings.” \n\n\n\nHis commitment to growth has made Bruce Cockburn both an exemplary citizen and a legendary artist whose prized songbook will be celebrated for many years to come. \n\n\n\nTickets: \n\n\n\nOrchestra Rows AA – FF: $99 + HSTOrchestra Rows A – J: $89 + HSTMezzanine: $84 + HSTBalcony: $79 + HST\n\n\n\nSponsored by: Team Marshall: Cottage Country Real Estate\, Terry D. SUMMARY:Sloan
DESCRIPTION:In 1991 bassist and vocalist Chris Murphy and drummer Andrew Scott met while studying at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design\, and with the addition of Patrick Pentland on guitar and vocals and Jay Ferguson on guitar\, formed Sloan. A year later the band made their recording debut on the Halifax\, Canada CD compilation “Hear & Now” before releasing their debut EP “Peppermint” (1991) on their own label Murderecords. In 1992 Sloan signed with Geffen Records and released their full-length debut “Smeared”. \n\n\n\nThe band’s 1994 follow-up “Twice Removed”\, despite the lack of promotion by Geffen Records due to artistic disputes sold well in their home nation of Canada but not so well in America. The record was undisputedly simpler and more melodic than its predecessor despite the label’s best efforts for Sloan make it noisier and for them to fit into the grunge scene. The album was named “The Best Canadian Album of All Time” by one poll and revered by many other and the band supported the album with a relentless tour of Canada thereafter. \n\n\n\nDuring a small hiatus in 1995 where members pursued their own musical interests\, Sloan returned in 1995 and released the single “Same Old Flame”. The single made way for another hugely popular album in Canada “One Chord to Another” in 1996. It was recorded on a very tight budget however eventually got a well-received U.S. release when the band signed with EMI subsidiary Enclave in early 1997. \n\n\n\nSloan subsequently released “Navy Blues” in 1998\, the double live album “4 Nights at the Palais Royale” in 1999\, “Between the Bridges” in 1999\, “Pretty Together” in 2011 and “Action Pact” in 2003. The latter of which was recorded in Los Angeles with Tom Rothrock in the production seat in the hope of appealing to a U.S. audience. Its successor\, the 30-track long “Never Hear the End of It” in 2006 saw all members of the band contributing a section of songs and became Sloan’s highest charting album in the U.S. \n\n\n\nIn 2008 Yep Roc Records released Sloan’s ninth studio album “Parallel Play”\, followed by the EP “Hit & Run” in 2009 and the full-length studio release “Double Cross” in 2011. “Commonwealth”\, released in 2014 is an extensive double album with each of the four sides written by one of the band members to allow their personalities to blossom. \n\n\n\nTickets: \n\n\n\nOrchestra Rows AA – FF: $89 + HSTOrchestra Rows A – J: $79 + HSTMezzanine: $69 + HSTBalcony: $59 + HST\n\n\n\nBUY TICKETS ONLINE HERE \n\n\n\nTickets can also be purchased during our business hours by calling our Box Office at 705-746-4466 extension 205 or visiting us at 2 Bay Street\, Parry Sound.

It isn’t an easy task and really\, labels only serve the needs of those who choose to employ them. From the beginning\, husband and wife duo Chelsey June and Jaaji have chosen to let their music speak for itself. And when considered alongside the nearly 30 various music awards and nominations they have accumulated over the past six years as Twin Flames\, it is obvious they have something special going on. \n\n\n\nChelsey June\, métis (Algonquin Cree heritage) from Ottawa\, and Jaaji\, Inuk and Mohawk from Nunavik and Kahnawake\, are part of an Indigenous renaissance. Their cultural backgrounds span Canada’s geography and their songs\, delivered through a mix of English\, French and Inuktitut\, have helped them earn a unique place among contemporary music makers from coast to coast. Their humour on stage is often unexpected and a welcome comedic relief when discussing darker issues\, combined with impeccable storytelling Twin Flames allows audiences to feel a truly human connection. \n\n\n\nTwin Flames Build bridges across cultures\, continents\, and styles and are long celebrated for their sonic landscapes spanning Canada and the Arctic. Twin Flames\, brings together a richness of personal history and musical experience\, 2x Canadian Folk Music Award recipients for Aboriginal Songwriters of the year and 3x Native American Music Award winners and most recently 3X Winners for the Inaugural Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Awards. Their songs tell stories of courage and survival. A beloved powerhouse with 30 Music award Nominations and having played more than 1000+ shows throughout Canada\, Greenland\, the United States\, Australia and France they are well on their way to becoming a Canadian household name. Using unique sounds\, Indigenous Spirit flutes\, traditional drums and western instruments\, synthesizing harmonies\, they offer a truly unique experience. Before combining their talents under the title of Twin Flames\, Chelsey June and Jaaji had their own respective award-winning and nominated careers; they met on-set during the filming of APTN’s TAM (Talent Autochtones Musical) in 2014. \n\n\n\nBUY TICKETS ONLINE HERE \n\n\n\nTickets can also be purchased during our business hours by calling our Box Office at 705-746-4466 extension 205 or visiting us at 2 Bay Street\, Parry Sound.

SUMMARY:Dave Gunning
DESCRIPTION:Dave Gunning is best defined as a master craftsman. Over the course of 23 years and 11 earlier albums\, the Nova Scotian folk singer/songwriter has diligently sharpened his skills\, developing into a poetic storyteller and emotionally convincing singer with few equals. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe fruits of those labours are now vividly on display in his latest collection of songs\, Up Against The Sky. The relaxed and intimate feel of the record reflects its method of creation. “I focused a lot on tones and the vibe\, rather than strategic parts on this one. Many of these tunes were sung and played at the same time\, and that prevented me from being able to go back and edit\, forcing a little more honesty.” \n\n\n\nHis songwriting skill has also been internationally recognized\, with tunes scoring victories and high placings in major international songwriting competitions. As a fervent hockey fan\, Dave was also thrilled to win the CBC’s hotly-contested Hockey Night In Canada Song Quest in 2014 with “A Game Goin’ On”\, a co-write with David Francey. Gunning has also remained in demand as a producer working with many artists. \n\n\n\nFor now\, though\, his concentrated focus is on Up Against The Sky. The record\, and all that’s yet to come from this compelling artist\, can be looked forward to with great anticipation. \n\n\n\nTickets are $24.95 + HST each. \n\n\n\nBUY TICKETS ONLINE HERE \n\n\n\nTickets can also be purchased during our business hours by calling our Box Office at 705-746-4466 extension 205 or visiting us at 2 Bay Street\, Parry Sound.

SUMMARY:Men of the Deeps
DESCRIPTION:Sponsored by Jo-Anne & Ian Ferguson of Horseshoe Pines Marina.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNew Album Out: AFTER THE PIT (2022) \n\n\n\nTo be a coal miner is to have a unique perspective on what life is like outside the pit; after the shift is done\, after the years are put in\, or after a fellow miner has fallen. \n\n\n\nThese men of the dark\, with families and friends to care for above ground\, regaled many a kitchen party crowd with the songs and stories from down in the dampness\, where the sun never shines. And so\, the coal miners’ legacy is passed around in spoken word and melody; the ways we understand it best. \n\n\n\nCome with us as we explore life for the coal miner…after the pit. \n\n\n\nThe Men of the Deeps is a choir of working and retired coal miners from the island of Cape Breton in Nova Scotia\, Canada. Organized in 1966 as part of Cape Breton’s contribution to Canada’s Centennial Year (1967)\, the group’s inception was an effort by the people of Cape Breton to preserve in song some of the rich folklore of that island’s coal mining communities. \n\n\n\nSince 1967 the group has been singing of the work and lifestyle of the Cape Breton coal miner to audiences throughout most of Canada and the United States. In 1976 they became the first Canadian performing group to tour the People’s Republic of China after diplomatic relations between the two nations were restored in 1972. And as recently as September 1999 the men traveled to Kosovo in the former Republic of Yugoslavia at the request of Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs\, where they performed in a gala festival organized by actress Vanessa Redgrave on behalf of the United Nations Children’s Fund. The group’s most recent tours have brought the choir as far north as the Ekati diamond mines in the Northwest Territories\, and as far south as Arizona\, Alabama\, Florida and the Appalachian coal mining communities of Kentucky\, Virginia and Pennsylvania. In September 2008 the group was invited to perform in Las Vegas at the international MineExpo conference where sold out audiences enjoyed its unique blend of songs and stories for six consecutive nights. \n\n\n\nToday the Men of the Deeps are more than a singing group -it is a social institution. There is a comradery amongst the members of the group that carries over to their audiences wherever they perform. Clad in coveralls and hard hats\, they make an impressive impact when they enter a concert hall in total darkness with only the lamps on their helmets for light. \n\n\n\nTickets are $52.95 + HST each. \n\n\n\nBUY TICKETS ONLINE HERE \n\n\n\nTickets can also be purchased during our business hours by calling our Box Office at 705-746-4466 extension 205 or visiting us at 2 Bay Street\, Parry Sound.

SUMMARY:Cantrip
DESCRIPTION:The name Cantrip is an Old Scots word meaning a charm\, magic spell or piece of mischief and it aptly describes the unexpected twists and turns in their musical arrangements\, likewise the compelling potency of their musicianship. Swirling border pipes\, raging fiddle\, thunderous guitar and three rich voices blend to create a sound energetic enough to tear the roof off. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEchoes can be heard of trad music from the 1960s and 70s\, but the years have slowly infested their music with the sounds of funk\, metal\, bluegrass\, swing\, and even klezmer. \n\n\n\nOriginally formed as a quartet\, Cantrip sprung from a local session in Edinburgh nearly twenty years ago. Their driving music immediately caught the attention of the masses\, and they were quickly signed to the Foot Stompin’ label. \n\n\n\nAfter a period of hiatus in which children were born and continents were left for new ones\, Cantrip redefined its sound. Trimming itself to a trio\, the band tightened its arrangements while expanding its influence. New inspirations began creeping into the sound\, complementing the traditional foundation of the band. \n\n\n\nAfter 20 years of touring\, Cantrip has found a character like no other. Dan Houghton\, Jon Bews and Eric McDonald stir the elements in a witches’ cauldron\, slowly coalescing into chaotic order. \n\n\n\nTickets are $35.90 + HST each. \n\n\n\nBUY TICKETS ONLINE HERE \n\n\n\nTickets can also be purchased during our business hours by calling our Box Office at 705-746-4466 extension 205 or visiting us at 2 Bay Street\, Parry Sound.

SUMMARY:Michael Kaeshammer
DESCRIPTION:Michael Kaeshammer has invested a lot – countless hours at the keyboard\, hundreds of recordings\, thousands of live performances\, millions of miles in the air and on the road – all in pursuit of a mastery of 12 notes across 88 keys. But for the acclaimed Canadian pianist and singer\, there is no set destination\, no achievable end point on his path; it’s all about the journey itself\, and that journey will always be ongoing. \n\n\n\nOver the course of decades as a professional performer\, Kaeshammer has developed a signature blend of classical\, jazz\, blues\, and boogie-woogie with effortless pop hooks for a compelling crossover style that’s immediately engaging yet impressively substantial. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“When I play\, I don’t worry about if it’s jazz or pop or classical or whatever; I just play what I hear and let the music decide what it wants to be\,” begins Kaeshammer. “Sure\, there are different styles\, different eras\, different approaches\, but when you really look at it\, it’s all just music based on 12 notes.” \n\n\n\nBorn and raised in Germany\, Kaeshammer began performing club\, theatre\, and festival stages throughout Europe in his early teens and continued on that trajectory after emigrating to Canada’s West Coast with his family in the mid-‘90s. His first studio album\, Blue Keys\, dropped in 1996 and spurred a consistent sequence of heralded releases and high-profile international performances. Through it all\, the world watched as he grew from child prodigy to full-fledged phenom; from unparalleled pianist to virtuosic singer-songwriter. \n\n\n\n“I do listen to a lot of music\, but I’m not overly influenced by other people; it’s more about trying to learn something new every day\,” muses Kaeshammer about his musical evolution. “I’ll take pretty much any opportunity if it’s going to help me discover new things and help me progress.” \n\n\n\nThose opportunities have been as wide-reaching as the artist’s subsequent breadth of style\, and include: opening slots for the likes of Ray Charles and Anne Murray; stints backing singers like Marva Wright\, the late blues queen of New Orleans; recording sessions with rockers Randy Bachman and Colin James; official Olympic Games performances in several world cities; dozens of prestigious awards and nominations; and revered TV spots\, including 2020’s highly-praised PBS special Boogie On The Blues Highway. \n\n\n\nMany of those experiences have also helped to hone his skills as a vocalist and lyricist to the point that Kaeshammer is now pushing firmly into the realm of pop crossover as exemplified with his latest collection\, Turn It Up. \n\n\n\nExpected in the Spring of 2023\, the 10-track collection finds Kaeshammer building on his mastery of the keyboard with deft and dynamic tinges of modern pop. The result is simultaneously his most ambitious and accessible offering to date\, its songs and stories both instantly engaging yet deserving of a deep\, disarming dive. \n\n\n\nTickets are $45.95 + HST each. \n\n\n\nBUY TICKETS ONLINE HERE \n\n\n\nTickets can also be purchased during our business hours by calling our Box Office at 705-746-4466 extension 205 or visiting us at 2 Bay Street\, Parry Sound.
