SUMMARY:Longye: The Jungle God
DESCRIPTION:A FILM BY LESLEY MAPSTONE \nThis is a free event.  There will be a Q & A session with Lesley Mapstone – writer\, director\, producer\, and host of Longye – after the film. \nPeople are disappearing from a remote mountain village in Nepal where the inhabitants believe a jungle god has abducted them. \nIn Nepal’s Himalaya\, close to the border of Tibet\, where mountain mists shroud old growth forests and bamboo jungles\, lies the remote village of Thulo Syabru that has been culturally isolated for hundreds of years. \nIt was settled by Tibetans who have retained their shamanic beliefs\, honouring both Buddhist and shamanic idols. Of all the shamanic gods the most powerful is a deity known to the villagers as Longye\, a wild jungle shaman resembling the yeti\, that abducts people into its world. \nVillagers frequently disappear from Thulo Syabru without a trace. In the past year\, two men have vanished after claiming they were being followed by spirits\, and with no police to help solve their mysteries\, the villagers believe Longye took them. \nThis 20 minute documentary tells the story of the missing men from the perspective of shamans and villagers\, and with haunting cinematography of one of the world’s last remaining undeveloped landscapes. \nIt creates the case that the extinction of nature deities follow the same pattern as the extinction of wildlife\, they are both pushed back from the outskirts of human settlement\, and the development of agriculture\, population and tourism have transformed the nature of a god from teacher to tormentor. \nABOUT LESLEY MAPSTONE \nLesley Mapstone is an adventure seeking British & Canadian journalist\, photographer and first time filmmaker who lives between Vancouver and Kathmandu. Before making the choice to embrace her passion to travel\, write\, photograph\, and document interesting perspectives that started with this film\, Lesley lived on 4 continents where she directed sales teams on behalf of television networks and the Shanghai municipal government\, and published a popular Vancouver magazine. Her other passion is helping animals. Lesley is a conservationist at heart\, who wishes to lend her voice to the protection of culture\, wildlife and wild places by inspiring perspectives through storytelling.

SUMMARY:Doc Walker: Acoustic Songs & Stories from The Heartland
DESCRIPTION:Country legends Doc Walker have released their new album\, Weathervane. The first single from the new record\, “Heart of the Heartland” pays homage to small town pride across the country. \nProduced by Gavin Brown and Dave Wasyliw\, and written by Chris Thorsteinson\, Dave Wasyliw\, Todd Clark\, Gavin Slate\, the song was inspired by hometown pride\, fond memories of youth and continuing to find new inspiration in one’s roots\, in this case\, Portage la Prairie\, Manitoba and Winnipeg\, which has long been home for bandmates Dave Wasyliw and Chris Thorsteinson. \n“Heart of the Heartland is about all of the lives that were lived\, and all of the memories that were created in a now dying town. One man’s connection to the broken concrete and dilapidated structures that harbour the ghosts of his entire childhood\, and his unshakable hometown pride\,” says bandmate Dave Wasyliw. “In short\, Weathervane is the record we’ve always wanted to make. We don’t set out in a specific direction when we start writing for an album. We write\, and write\, and re-write. Much like a weathervane\, it’s almost as if we’ll lick our finger\, and hold it to the wind to see if we are on the right track.” \n“Weathervane to me is a reflection of the amazingly crazy life I’ve lived. I am one of those guys that never left his home town\, yet had the opportunity to travel the world. I’ve seen Canada from coast to coast many times throughout the years staring out the windows of vans\, old buses\, new buses\, trains and planes\, and every time I’m shocked by the beauty of our country\, but my heart has always been in the Prairies\,” says lead singer\, Chris Thorsteinson. \nWith over 20 Top 10 singles in total\, Doc Walker is one of the most recognized Canadian country acts of the past two decades. The group has received multiple Canadian Country Music Awards\, including Fans’ Choice\, Group or Duo of the Year\, CMT Video of the Year\, Single of the Year\, and Country Music Program or Special of the Year. In addition\, Doc Walker has been nominated for several JUNO Awards for Country Album of the Year\, including a win in 2009 for the album Beautiful Life.

SUMMARY:Brass Transit
DESCRIPTION:What happens when eight of Canada’s most in-demand musicians and singers gather together out of a common love for one of the most successful pop/rock groups of all time? \nBrass Transit – a dynamic\, crowd-pleasing\, studio-tight powerhouse\, and the world’s foremost CHICAGO tribute! \nBrass Transit was formed in 2008 and brought together 8 of Canada’s most talented\,  accomplished and award- winning players. Their sole purpose was to pay tribute to the decades-long\, multi-platinum songbook of CHICAGO. \nAn indication of the band’s authenticity and high-level musicianship: Chicago’s current ranks already include one longtime veteran of Brass Transit! \nSince then\, the band has toured North America steadily\, dazzling audiences with  flawless performances and spectacular attention detail. Hits like: Saturday In The Park\, 25 or 6 To 4\, If You Leave Me Now\, Feelin’ Stronger Every Day and Beginnings have left crowds in awe\, evoking multiple standing ovations and comments like: “Spine-Tingling!” “Brought me back to my youth!” and “Perfect in every detail!”. \nBrass Transit goes far beyond just imitating the songs; they embody the music. They recently produced their first (self-titled) album\, taking songs by other top artists from the seventies and recording them with horns in the CHICAGO style. The result is a fresh approach to some of the greatest hits of the era. They also recently scored their show for full symphony orchestra with original arrangements that are truly spellbinding. \nTickets to this event go on sale to Stockey Centre members on Saturday November 10 at 10am and to the general public on Saturday November 17 at 10am. Contact our Box Office at 877-746-4466 to become a member or visit us at 2 Bay Street in Parry Sound.

DESCRIPTION:Remember when you used to listen to an entire album? Classic Albums Live does. For the first time in popular music\, the greatest albums from the 60s and 70s are recreated live on stage\, note for note- cut for cut. \n\n\n“This has never been done before\,” says series producer\, Craig Martin. “There’s a real thirst to hear these albums performed start to finish. For many of us this is the music we grew up with – the soundtrack of our lives.” \n“All of our focus is put into the music.” Says Martin\, “We perform the works of the Beatles\, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin the same way an orchestra performs the works of Mozart. We don’t bother with imitation or impersonation. The bands are big – upwards of 11 pieces. We research these albums and go to great lengths to reproduce each and every sound live. We never use tape or computers. We’ll bring in a children’s choir\, a sitar player a string quartet\, whatever it takes to get it right.” \nEach album calls for a new group of musicians. “That’s the real challenge\,” says Martin\, “Finding the right musicians for the right album. So far we’ve been bang on with every performance.” Members of Nelly Furtado\, Moist\, Jesse Cooke\, Honeymoon Suite\, David Usher and the Headstones have all taken part in the performances. \nNow Classic Albums Live brings Queen’s Night at the Opera to the Stockey Stage.  A Night at the Opera is the fourth studio album by the British rock band Queen\, released on 21 November 1975. It was reportedly the most expensive album ever recorded at the time of its release. The album takes its name from the Marx Brothers film of the same name\, which the band watched one night at the studio complex when recording.
