SUMMARY:Parry Sound Singers present I've Got the Music in Me
DESCRIPTION:Ever wondered why you find a particular song so compelling?  Is it the melody or the harmony?  The rhythm or the quality of the voice? \n\n\n\nOne thing for sure–when a melody and lyric combine to create a song\, something unique is born.  And to reveal that special quality to the audience\, singers must both understand and embody the music’s purpose.  We must have the music truly within us before we can express it outwardly.  Come to think of it\, that’s exactly what our theme intends to express. \n\n\n\n“I’ve Got the Music in Me!” is a diverse collection of favourites from folk to rock.  If you love songs and ensemble singing\, you’ll love this year’s concert by the Parry Sound Singers and supporting musicians.  Friday and Saturday evenings of Mother’s Day weekend.  See you there!   \n\n\n\nThe Parry Sound Singers are joining us at The Stockey Centre for two shows\, Friday May 8th at 7:30pm and Saturday May 9th at 7:30pm! \n\n\n\nTickets are $40.00 each for adult\, $20 for youth 16 and under. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBUY TICKETS ONLINE HERE \n\n\n\nAlternatively\, tickets can also be purchased during our business hours by calling our Box Office staff at 705-746-4466 extension 405 or visiting us at 2 Bay Street\, Parry Sound. SUMMARY:Dala: Girls from the North Country
DESCRIPTION:Juno nominees and winners of the 2010 Canadian Folk Music Award for Vocal Group of the Year\, Amanda Walther and Sheila Carabine of Dala write and sing in harmony best described as angelic. These two best friends met in their high school music class in 2002; they have since released five albums and toured extensively across North America. Darlings of the Canadian music scene\, Dala are now poised to bring their fresh brand of acoustic pop music to the world. \n\n\n\nDrawing upon influences like The Beatles\, Joni Mitchell\, Neil Young and Bob Dylan\, Dala write songs that are both catchy and insightful. Amanda’s ethereal soprano voice blends seamlessly with Sheila’s velvety alto\, creating the lush harmonies that have become their trademark. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“There’s nothing pretentious about Dala’s music; it’s stripped down and laid bare. That’s not to say it is without polish – far from it. Sheila Carabine and Amanda Walther have worked hard to exploit every facet of their extraordinary musical blend\, and it would be just as at home in a 1960s coffeehouse as it is now on the contemporary concert stage”.-Andrew Craig\, Host of CBC “Canada Live” \n\n\n\nThe sheer joy with which they perform is infectious\, turning first-time listeners into instant fans. Dala are equally entertaining between songs\, telling funny and down to earth stories that make every show unique. Dala have opened for artists such as Tom Cochrane\, Stuart McLean of the CBC’s Vinyl Café\, Richie Havens and Arlo Guthrie. No strangers to the festival scene\, they have also performed at The New Orleans Jazz Festival\, The Edmonton Folk Festival\, California’s Strawberry Festival and Mariposa. In 2009\, they were the only Canadian act invited to play at the 50th Anniversary of the Newport Folk Festival. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets are $52.95 + HST each. \n\n\n\nTickets go on sale to Stockey Members on Thursday September 4th and on sale to the public on Thursday September 11th at 11am.
