Stockey Centre presents a PSHS Drama Production of Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland. \n\n\n\nFollow that rabbit to a delightful\, entertaining world of childhood fantasies.  Alice journeys into a world of talking animals\, comic royalty and races where the contestants run in circles!  There are also the Mad Hatter’s frantic tea party\, the watch-carrying White Rabbit\, and talking flowers.  Along the way Alice must deal with a sneezing duchess and a baby that turns into a pig!  The finale has Alice watching a trial\, but she suddenly finds herself the accused!  The play gives a modern view to an old classic\, where nonsense makes quite good sense. \n\n\n\nThere will be two public performances\, the first on Friday January 17th at 7pm and the second on Monday January 20th at 7pm. *Please note these are updated dates following changes due to weather conditions this week. \n\n\n\nThis event is free admission with general seating. DESCRIPTION:VaughnCo Entertainment presents \n\n\n\nThe international touring band The Wildflowers are North America’s #1 Tribute to Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. \n\n\n\n“Who doesn’t love Tom Petty?” bassist Darryell Stone asked himself one day in 2012 while listening to the radio. There was only one answer he could imagine\, “Nobody.” Testing his hypothesis\, Stone polled friends\, family and fellow musicians how they felt about Petty. The result was always the same. Everyone loves Tom Petty. \n\n\n\nOne of these fellow musicians just happened to be Tom Petty’s doppelganger\, guitarist and lead vocalist Jonathan Guthrie. Guthrie was an avid fan and had always fantasized about being a Heartbreaker. As two seasoned musicians and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers fans\, there was really only one thing for them to do – form a Tom Petty tribute band. \n\n\n\nIt wasn’t hard for Stone and Guthrie to find skilled musicians excited about playing in a Tom Petty tribute band. Drummer Steve Lucas\, formerly of Feverdog and a bandmate of Stone’s local band\, Theatrix\, quickly signed on. Lucas brought with him his M-80’s band mate Glenn Freeman. Freeman\, who boasts of seeing multiple Tom Petty concerts in the 80s\, brought an instrumental cornucopia to the group with keyboards\, harmonica\, guitar and backing vocals. Lead guitarist Curt Granger rounded out the lineup. With 30+ year’s experience in Birmingham’s local music scene\, Granger has played in such circuit bands as Pyrate\, Scream Sophie\, and his own solo project\, as well as creating a line of world-renowned boutique guitar amplifiers. \n\n\n\nThe new Tom Petty tribute band rehearsed with one focus – to recreate the music of Tom Petty with precision\, attention to detail\, and a reverent respect. Parts were studied in great detail\, down to inflections in the very way each word of every lyric was sung. \n\n\n\nPerforming locally in the first year\, it didn’t take long for the band to be noticed. Word spread quickly\, which led to more shows outside the band’s home state\, which led to more word of mouth and exposure. SUMMARY:Danny Michel
DESCRIPTION:The only good thing about not shopping in record stores anymore is you won’t have to figure out what genre to look for Danny under. If that were the case\, you could try looking under\, rock\, pop\, folk\, world or even classical. \n\n\n\nHis own self-described musical A.D.D. has kept his music fresh for decades. Maybe it has something to do with being born next to a candy factory\, or his ambidextrous brain\, but his thoughtful lyrics & charming performances have earned a devoted fan base\, multiple nominations for Junos\, The Polaris Prize\, CBC’s “Heart Of Gold”\, and most recently winning the CFMA’s “Producer of the year” and “Oliver Schroder Pushing the Boundaries” Awards. \n\n\n\nBut Danny considers his career highlights to be the unique real life moments like performing for Jane Goodall’s 85th birthday party\, touring with Stuart Mclean and working with charities close to his heart. \n\n\n\nIn 2015\, his adventurous spirit took him to the country of Belize where he tracked down one of his favourite Belizean bands; The Garifuna Collective (a unique Afro-Amerindian cultural group) and convinced them to create an album together. That album (“Black Birds Are Dancing Over Me”) was called “One of the finest musical works of our time” by Billboard’s Larry Leblanc\, landed Danny’s 3rd Juno nomination (World Music Album Of The Year)\, and a sold out summer tour of North America with The Garifuna Collective. \n\n\n\nWhile in Belize\, Danny also founded the DM Ocean Academy Fund that helps raise scholarships for a small non-profit community high school. To date\, Danny & his fans have raised over $125\,000.00 for the school. \n\n\n\nIn 2016\, Danny returned to Canada to record “Matadora\,” his most deeply humanist album to date. This ten-song collection explores the environmentalist\, pacifist\, romanticist\, archivist\, and space enthusiast in Danny. \n\n\n\nThen it was off to the Canadian high Arctic where Danny recorded “Khlebnikov” (possibly the most northern album ever recorded/above 80°) aboard the legendary Soviet-era Russian ice-breaker\, Kapitan Khlebnikov during an 18-day arctic expedition curated by Astronaut Col. Chris Hadfield. Once home\, Danny’s recordings were arranged for brass & strings by film composer Rob Carli. DESCRIPTION:The story of Christopher Reeve is an astonishing rise from unknown actor to iconic movie star\, and his definitive portrayal of Clark Kent/Superman set the benchmark for the superhero cinematic universes that dominate cinema today. Reeve portrayed the Man of Steel in four Superman films and played dozens of other roles that displayed his talent and range as an actor\, before being injured in a near-fatal horse-riding accident in 1995 that left him paralyzed from the neck down. After becoming a quadriplegic\, he became a charismatic leader and activist in the quest to find a cure for spinal cord injuries\, as well as a passionate advocate for disability rights and care — all while continuing his career in cinema in front of and behind the camera and dedicating himself to his beloved family. Seats are first come\, first served. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMEET THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER: \n\n\n\nDr. Jean Clinton is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University\, Division of Child Psychiatry\, in Ontario\, Canada. From 2014 to 2018\, she served as an education advisor to the Premier of Ontario and the Minister of Education. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Clinton is a trainer in Dr. Bruce Perry’s Neurosequential Model in Education (NME). She collaborates closely with Michael Fullan and his New Pedagogies for Deep Learning team. She serves as a member of the MindUP Scientific Advisory Board and as a MindUp for Families advisor. Dr. Clinton was a Fellow of the Child Trauma Academy and has been a Zero to Three Academy Fellow since 2013. \n\n\n\nFor over 35 years\, Dr. Clinton has been a consultant to children and youth mental health programs\, child welfare\, and primary care. She has a keen interest in brain development and the crucial role that relationships\, belonging\, and connectedness play. \n\n\n\nDr. Clinton believes in a compassionate\, competency-based learning system that fosters deep learning and relational focus.
