Learn with Vern

Join us at The Stockey Centre for a 4 day youth workshop: Learn with Vern! A four day week of exploring various themes such as story book and fairy tales:
Solving a mystery, space travel, movies and cartoons; super heroes and myths and legends. A even newly created ideas from the participants. All culminating in a presentation and/or showcase on the afternoon of day 4.
YOUTH class for Ages 8-14 only. Parents/guardians will be required to complete a permission form upon arriving with students under the age of 18 for Day One of the class.
Day One: Tuesday, August 11, 2026 from 11AM to 3PM
Ice breakers, story selection and creation.
Use of available materials and improvisation.
Auditions- and sharing of individual talents or interests.
Introduction to options for story telling, such as ; puppetry, shadow puppetry, mime music and speaking.
Deciding on a large group or smaller group or individual presentations.
Create invitation for. Parents/ family.
Day Two: Wednesday, August 12, 2026 from 11AM to 3PM
Story creation, basic group writing of a story. (This could include small of whole group work).
Blocking and crafting.
Discussion: adding comedy, mystery and dramatic themes. -Discussion of ”Less is More”.
Day Three: Thursday, August 13, 2026 from 11AM to 3PM
Continue with mime, improvisation, speaking and vocal work.
Continue with crafting and props.
Continue with blocking.
Further decisions to simplify the presentation.

Day Four: Friday, August 14, 2026 from 11AM to 3PM
Tech Dress and Rehearsal
Afternoon presentation for family/friends.
Theatre workshop camp is for group and individual development. We encourage a supportive , cooperative sharing environment.
A maximum of 20 participant spaces are available for the session. ALL supplies included. Students are encouraged to bring a device that takes pictures, along with a water bottle and any allergy-safe snacks they may wish to bring.
One registration covers all four day of the class and participation is required for the entirety.
Spaces are $85 each.
About Vern: Actor, artist, vocalist, writer and teacher. Vern has directed, produced and/or performed in several community and professional theatre productions. Starring roles included Tevya in Fiddler on the Roof and Che in Evita. Vern has published two short books. One of which was turned into a tv show called “Mr B and Friends”. Vern has run many children’s workshops, camps and festivals, such as Mariposa Folk Festival. Vern is a licenced Ontario teacher and has taught theatre/ drama to students and teachers. So Learn with Vern. Enjoy creating a new and exciting experience in theatre.
